Baked at Ancora
Successful restaurateur, Mark Wilson, of household names such as Osteria, Spice Den, Taverna and Bombay Cricketers Club came to us to create a stunning, European inspired patisserie in Tweed Heads.
This was a very beautiful place of work, located on the Terranora River. The client wanted to create a cafe and bakery with a warm European feel, so getting deep into the warm timber tones was a must.
For the main entrance we created a very large roller barn door with a timber steel overhead to give it a very striking look, attracting the attention of passing traffic. On the opposing side, we created a long banquette seating with a recycled timber backrest keeping that aged timber charm. On the base of the banquette, we used steel sheeting with some layered steel strips to create a little extra detail.
With the front counter we wanted to keep it simple, but we wanted to add some details so showcasing the end grain and adding some dowel in the fixing points we were able to do this.
To add an element of fun to the space, I installed some swing chairs suspended from the ceiling to give a different dining experience. With vines and pendant lighting hung from the rafters and a few more added little touches this project really came together with another client very happy with the end product.
